The ARTN has greatly increased and expanded training and continuing education opportunities through the modern videoconferencing capabilities of the network. We work directly with our members in rural Alaska to identify training needs within their facilities and communities. We then work to identify and coordinate appropriate educational providers to address those gaps. The most current, up-to-date ARTN Education Program calendar is posted to this website. . Participation Instructions
Educational Partners Standard ARTN Participation Procedures: To participate in a live, distance education event, sites must register both their participants and facility using the same form. Please follow these steps: PRIOR TO EVENT:
- Notify your facility's Site Education Coordinator (SEC) that you would like to participate in a particular program (to find your facility's SEC,

- Verify within your facility that your videoconferencing equipment and a meeting room is available 1/2 hour prior to and throughout the entire broadcast time for your event
- Register on-line for your event
- ARTN Member Facilities: register at least 3 day prior to the scheduled event date
- NON-ARTN Member Facilities: register at least 7 days prior to the scheduled event date
- Review the VTC Etiquette Protocols
- If this is the first time you have used the ARTN equipment, request an ARTN End User Training held every Wednesday from 3:00 – 4:00 pm AST
DAY OF EVENT:
- Make sure your video endpoint is turned on (it can be in Standby mode, but must have power!)
- Complete all necessary paperwork to track your attendance. At a minimum, each event requires:

. After Event Educational Partners The ARTN is fortunate to partner with leading distance education providers. Below is a list of the originating institution and a brief description of the series programs that ARTN broadcasts. These are events we broadcast on a regular, ongoing basis. They are presented in a live, presentation format and are not recorded by the ARTN. However, we encourage you to view the websites below to check for a recorded version that is often posted to their website directly. Individual event information can be accessed using the ARTN Event Calendar. University of Washington The ARTN's partnership with the University of Washington provides ARTN members with access to myriad programs in multiple disciplines.
- Department of Medicine (DOM) Grand Rounds broadcast weekly on Thursday mornings from 7:00 – 8:00 am AST. Topics vary week-to-week and can be found by clicking on the event calendar or by visiting their website.
- Department of Cardiology (DOC) Grand Rounds broadcast the third Friday of each month from 6:30 – 7:30 am AST. Specific broadcast information can be found by clicking on the ARTN Calendar of Events or at their website.
- Native People for Cancer Control Telehealth Network (NPCCTN) partners with UW and ARTN to bring their bi-weekly provider series to ARTN member sites. These events take place on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm AST. Topics vary and can be found on the ARTN Calendar of Events.
UW Continuing Education For DOM and DOC Grand Rounds Only! The University of Washington, School of Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. The University of Washington, School of Medicine designates these educational activities for a maximum of 39.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. (Each session is 1.0 credit) To register for these events, please use the ARTN Registration form and submit to with payment of $38/academic year, currently September 1, 2008 – June 30, 3009. Missouri Telehealth Network From MTN, we currently receive two educational broadcasts. Up-to-date topic information can be found via the ARTN Calendar of Events or on their website.
- Health Ethics are held quarterly on the third Monday of the month from 9:00 – 10:00 am AST.
- Oncology Grand Rounds are held monthly on the first Monday of the month from 9:00 – 10:00 am AST.
- Psychiatry Grand Rounds are held weekly on Wednesdays from 1:00 – 2:00 pm AST.
Utah Department of Health, Diabetes Prevention and Control Program through the Utah Telehealth Network From Utah, we broadcast the monthly Diabetes Telehealth Series offered the third Wednesday of each month from 10:00 am – 11:00 am AST. This program is provided by the Utah Diabetes Prevention and Control Program through the Utah Telehealth Network and offers free continuing education credits for nurses (1.5 hours) and dietitians (1 hour). Participation is available via video- and tele-conference. The purpose of the series is to keep healthcare professionals abreast of the latest information in diabetes care and education. Seattle Children's Hospital Seattle Children's Hospital provides access to the ARTN to two series and a reoccurring educational event.
- Pediatric Nursing Grand Rounds are held on the first Thursday of each month from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm. These events are approved for Continuing Nursing education credits (1.0 CNE per session) through the Washington Nurses Association and are accepted by the Alaska Nursing Credit Council. Registration, weekly sign-in and a separate evaluation form are required by all participants receiving credit. Find out more.
- Autism 101 this event is targeted towards parents and caregivers of patients newly diagnosed with autism. The course repeats every other month on the first Tuesday evening from 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm AST. The cost is $10 per family to attend. Find out more.
- Autism 200 Series is a series of courses that highlight specific topics to assist and educate parents and caregivers with children diagnosed with autism. This series of nine separate programs is offered monthly on the third Thursday from 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm AST. The cost to attend is $10 per family per session. Find out more.
